Jermaine Pennant urges Liverpool to sign Michael Olise as Mohamed Salah’s successor
Former Liverpool FC winger Jermaine Pennant has called on the club to move decisively in the transfer market, identifying Michael Olise as the ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah ahead of next season.
Salah recently confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current campaign, bringing an end to a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield filled with major trophies and individual accolades. His departure is expected to leave a significant gap on the right wing, forcing the club to search for a high-quality successor in the upcoming transfer window.
Pennant believes Liverpool should waste no time in pursuing Olise, who currently plays for Bayern Munich. Speaking to the press, the former Reds winger urged the club’s hierarchy to go all out for the French international.
“Go and sign Olise now, at any cost. He is the replacement for Mohamed Salah at any price. Any amount plus Gakpo,” Pennant said, underlining his belief in the player’s ability to step into Salah’s role.
Olise has enjoyed a standout campaign in Germany, featuring in 47 matches across all competitions while contributing 20 goals and 29 assists. His performances have made him a key figure for Bayern since his move from Crystal Palace.
However, securing his signature will not be straightforward. The Frenchman is under contract with Bayern Munich until 2029, and the German giants are unlikely to part ways with one of their top performers, especially after his impressive impact since arriving in Bavaria.
Bayern are also in the hunt for multiple trophies this season, having already clinched the Bundesliga title and reached the German Cup final. They remain in contention in Europe as well, despite a narrow 5-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash at the Parc des Princes.
With Salah’s departure looming, Liverpool face a crucial decision in the transfer market, and Pennant’s strong endorsement of Olise highlights one potential path the club could take as they plan for a new era.
