Idrissa Gueye: Senegal midfielder linked with Al-Diriyah move after Everton exit

Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye, currently without a club after leaving Everton, is being linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Diriyah. The 36-year-old defensive midfielder became a free agent on 1 July 2026 and is understood to be considering opportunities for what could be the final phase of his career.

Gueye’s potential switch would add significant experience to Al-Diriyah, with the Dakar-born player boasting more than 250 Premier League appearances and over 200 Ligue 1 games across spells in England and France. He most recently returned to Everton from Paris Saint-Germain in September 2022 for a €4m fee, before his contract ended this summer.

The former PSG midfielder has featured regularly on the biggest stages, including 30 UEFA Champions League appearances, and was part of the Senegal side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022. His last recorded market valuation was €500,000 in June 2026, a figure that would make a deal financially accessible for the Saudi club if they decide to formalise their interest.

Gueye maintained a prominent role for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, starting all four of their matches and playing the vast majority of available minutes. That level of involvement is likely to appeal to Al-Diriyah as they target proven international pedigree in midfield.

With the veteran currently unattached and free to negotiate, talks with Al-Diriyah are expected to centre on contract length and role, as the Saudi Pro League side weigh up whether to move from interest to a formal offer.
