Al Ahly target midfielder for January transfer window as Reda Slim faces exit
Al Ahly are planning to strengthen their midfield during the January transfer window, while Moroccan winger Reda Slim has reportedly been left out of the club’s plans for the second half of the 2026/27 season.
The Egyptian football powerhouse is prioritising the signing of a midfielder when the winter transfer window opens in January as Reda Slim faces an uncertain future at the club.
The Moroccan player is no longer part of the club’s plans, with Al Ahly considering either terminating his contract or cashing out on him.
Al Ahly had attempted to offload the player during the previous summer transfer window. However, negotiations reportedly stalled after Slim sought a mutual termination of his contract, with all his outstanding financial dues paid, which would have allowed him to leave the club as a free agent.
The club’s management was unwilling to accept those terms, leaving the player’s future unresolved.
Slim returned to Al Ahly in the summer of 2026 following the end of his loan spell with Moroccan side AS FAR. His contract with the Egyptian club runs until the summer of 2027, meaning the management must find a suitable solution if it intends to part ways with him.
The 26-year-old spent the previous season with AS FAR, where he featured in 39 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.
His performances during the loan spell followed an earlier period in which he established himself as an influential player for the Moroccan outfit before moving to Al Ahly in the summer of 2023.
However, his time with the Egyptian powerhouse has not produced the same level of attacking output. Slim has made 44 appearances for the Cairo-based club across all competitions, scoring five goals and registering three assists.
His return from the loan spell has therefore failed to secure him a place in the club’s plans, with the reported January decision suggesting that Al Ahly are prepared to make changes to their attacking options while addressing their midfield needs.
The potential departure of Slim would also provide the Egyptian champions with an opportunity to reshape their squad as they pursue their objectives in domestic and continental competitions.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly are preparing to face Al Qanah on Wednesday in the seventh round of the 2026/27 Egyptian Premier League season as they continue their campaign.
