Pyramids FC demand elite European referees for Al Ahly showdown
Pyramids FC want an elite foreign refereeing team to officiate their upcoming Egyptian Premier League showdown against Al Ahly, insisting that the officials should have experience managing matches in Europe’s top five leagues.
The Egyptian club are open to the appointment of foreign referees for the highly anticipated encounter, scheduled for November 23, but favour officials with extensive experience at the highest level of European football.
Pyramids believe the appointment of an experienced refereeing team would help ensure the match is handled to the highest standards, given the importance of the fixture in the Egyptian Premier League title race.
Meanwhile, the referees committee has reportedly ruled out the Slovenian refereeing school from its list of potential options for the encounter.
The decision comes despite the committee’s positive assessment of Slovenian officials, particularly following their performance during the recent Egyptian football showdown between Al Ahly and Zamalek.
However, the committee is understood to be keen to avoid further controversy surrounding the appointment of officials for the Pyramids-Al Ahly clash, prompting it to consider alternatives.
The fixture is expected to attract considerable attention, with both clubs seeking to strengthen their positions in the league standings.
The choice of referees is therefore likely to remain a major talking point as preparations continue, with Pyramids making their preference clear ahead of the November 23 encounter.
