Walid Regragui has described himself as the best coach to have ever coached Morocco’s national team.
This comes after he recorded his 12th consecutive win against Benin in a friendly game on Monday.
Despite the win, Regragui’s side was criticised for their poor performance.
“You can’t ask me to perform according to the results every time. The numbers speak for themselves. After the Qatar World Cup, I have once again become the best coach in the history of Moroccan football, with 12 consecutive victories,” Regragui said during the press conference.
“I think we scored 41 goals, at a rate of more than 3 goals per game. Isn’t this proof that I am an attacking coach?” he asked.
With Morocco set to host the AFCON later this year, Regragui, who guided the Atlas Lions to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, says he will win the ultimate.
“I promised you that we would win the CAN, and I still keep my promise. I went through the same experience with Wydad, and there was doubt surrounding the club’s ability to win the league and CAF Champions League double.”
“I have self-confidence and the support of the players, so there is no worry or doubt, and I love this kind of challenge.
“It was expected that the performance would be somewhat shaken due to the changes I made, but with the return of the main players, everything will improve,” he added.
