André Ayew’s short NAC Breda spell ends following Eredivisie relegation
Ghanaian forward André Ayew will leave NAC Breda at the end of the season after a brief spell that ended in disappointment for both player and club.
The Dutch side confirmed on Friday that the 36-year-old attacker will depart following the conclusion of the Eredivisie campaign.
Ayew only joined Breda in December 2025 as a free agent, several months after leaving French club Le Havre.
His arrival was seen as an experienced addition for a team battling to remain in the Dutch top flight.
However, the former Ghana captain was unable to help NAC Breda avoid relegation to the Eerste Divisie.
Ayew made 16 appearances for the club and scored one goal during his short stay in the Netherlands.
Despite his experience at the highest level of European football, Breda’s struggles continued throughout the second half of the season.
The club will now prepare for life in the second division after a difficult campaign that ultimately ended with relegation confirmed before the final round of matches.
Ayew is expected to play his last game for NAC Breda on Sunday afternoon when the team faces AZ Alkmaar in the 34th and final matchday of the Eredivisie season.
The Ghanaian forward arrived in Dutch football carrying significant experience after a long professional career across several major European leagues.
Over the years, Ayew has represented clubs in France, England, Qatar and Türkiye, while also building a strong reputation with the Ghana national team.
His move to Breda was viewed as an opportunity to bring leadership and attacking quality to a struggling squad. However, results on the pitch failed to improve sufficiently to keep the club in the division.
Ayew’s departure now raises fresh questions about the next step in his career. Even at 36, the former Olympique de Marseille player remains one of Ghana’s most recognisable football figures and continues to attract attention because of his leadership and experience.
For NAC Breda, the end of the season marks the beginning of a rebuilding process after their relegation setback.
The club will now look toward restructuring the squad ahead of next season in the Eerste Divisie.
Ayew, meanwhile, closes another chapter in a long professional journey that has taken him across multiple countries and competitions.
His final appearance against AZ is expected to bring an emotional end to a difficult period for both the player and the Dutch club.
