Frank Magri transfer takes unexpected turn as unnamed Qatar club steps up interest

Frank Magri’s proposed move to OGC Nice has been thrown into doubt after an unnamed Qatar club reportedly increased its efforts to sign the Cameroon international. The 26-year-old forward is a free agent following the end of his contract with Toulouse FC and had appeared close to joining the French club.

An agreement had been reached between Magri and Nice, with the player’s medical examination already scheduled. However, according to Foot Mercato, the Qatari side has intensified its negotiations in recent days in an attempt to persuade him to change his destination.

The identity of the club involved has not been disclosed, leaving Magri’s next move uncertain. Nice had looked to be in a strong position, but the interest from Qatar has added a new dimension to the transfer situation and could yet prevent the deal from being completed.

Magri scored five goals and provided one assist in 17 Ligue 1 appearances last season. His campaign was affected by his decision not to extend his time with Toulouse FC, after which he was excluded from the first-team group from February onwards.

The forward’s departure from Toulouse had already attracted interest from elsewhere. A few weeks ago, Africafoot exclusively reported that Swansea City and Angers SCO were monitoring the Cameroon player.

For now, Nice have not completely abandoned their pursuit, but the Qatari option appears to be gaining momentum. The French club’s previous agreement with Magri means it remains involved in the negotiations, although the late approach from Qatar has created uncertainty over whether he will continue his career in France.

Transfermarkt currently estimates Magri’s market value at €3m. During his time at Toulouse, he earned an annual salary of €500,000, equivalent to 325,000,000 FCFA.

Magri must now decide between the opportunity previously outlined with Nice and a potentially more lucrative move to Qatar. No final destination has yet been confirmed, and the contest for his signature remains open.
