Morocco coach offers positive update on Achraf Hakimi injury recovery
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has provided a reassuring update on the condition of Achraf Hakimi, saying the defender is expected to recover in time for major upcoming fixtures despite recent injury concerns.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back has been dealing with a muscular issue in recent weeks, but remains on course to return before the end of the club season, including a possible appearance in the Champions League final.
“He has plenty of time to come back. He should be ready for the Champions League final with PSG. He will surely be back before then. We just have to hope that he doesn’t come back too soon,” Ouahbi said in an interview with Arryadia.
The Morocco coach, who succeeded Walid Regragui, also praised the 26-year-old’s professionalism and physical commitment, highlighting his performance level in high-intensity matches such as the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
“When I see him play against Bayern, the intensity he brings, his runs, his tracking back, and the way he takes care of himself… These are truly athletes. We have players who perform at the highest level, and that helps us achieve the goals we’ve set here in Morocco,” he added.
Hakimi remains a key figure for both Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team. He suffered a muscle strain during the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich on April 28, a match that ended 5-4, and has since been undergoing a managed recovery programme.
Medical staff at both club and international level are carefully monitoring his progress, with particular attention given to ensuring a full recovery ahead of the next major international tournament.
With the World Cup approaching, Morocco are keen to have one of their most influential players fully fit as they look to build on their strong showing in the previous edition of the tournament.
Hakimi’s return timeline remains cautious, but optimism continues within both the national team setup and PSG camp that he will be available for decisive fixtures in the months ahead.
