Leeds consider move for Standard Liege goalkeeper Matthieu Epolo

Matthieu Epolo, the DR Congo and Belgium goalkeeper at Standard Liege, has been linked with a move to Leeds in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has established himself as Standard Liege’s first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the 2026-27 Jupiler Pro League season, starting all three of the club’s matches. He has conceded five goals and kept one clean sheet during those appearances.

Epolo joined Standard Liege from the club’s under-18 side in July 2021 and has remained with the Belgian club throughout his senior development. His current contract runs until 30 June 2029, meaning any move would involve Leeds negotiating with Standard rather than pursuing a free transfer.

The goalkeeper was also included in the DR Congo squad for the 2026 World Cup but did not make an appearance in the tournament’s opening four-player schedule listed for him. He was born in Brussels and holds both DR Congo and Belgian nationality.

Epolo’s market value is listed at €8m, a figure that provides an indication of his current standing as Leeds assess their goalkeeping options. There is no transfer fee or agreement attached to the reported link, and the move remains at the rumour stage.
