FIFA has issued an ultimatum to the Gabonese Football Federation (Fegafoot), demanding payment of more than €520,000 to former national team coach Patrice Neveu by April 11, 2025.
Failure to comply could result in sporting sanctions, including possible points deductions in international competitions.
In April 2024, FIFA ruled that Fegafoot must compensate Neveu with €522,593.17 following his dismissal, which was deemed unfair by football’s governing body.
Despite this decision, the Gabonese federation has yet to make the required payment, prompting FIFA to escalate the matter.
Unmet commitments and financial penalty
Neveu, who was appointed as Gabon’s head coach in May 2019, had a contract set to run until March 31, 2025.
His monthly salary was estimated at €30,500, excluding bonuses and other benefits.
However, he was dismissed in October 2023, ending a tenure that spanned over four years.
FIFA ruled that his dismissal was unjustified, ordering Fegafoot to compensate him for the remaining value of his contract.
The decision was meant to settle the dispute, but the federation has so far failed to fulfill its financial obligation.
FIFA threatens sporting consequences
With the deadline fast approaching, FIFA has toughened its stance.
If Fegafoot does not settle the debt by April 11, the world football governing body could impose disciplinary measures, including a potential deduction of points from Gabon’s international matches.
The warning adds further pressure on Gabonese football authorities, who must now act swiftly to avoid consequences that could affect the national team’s standing in international competitions.
