Ferran Torres rescues PSG on debut – then discovers an unexpected way into hotel

Ferran Torres scored twice on his Paris Saint-Germain debut to secure a 2-2 draw at Rennes, but his first night with the club took an unexpected turn when he and new team-mate Mika Godts struggled to get into their hotel.

The two players were seen together on the streets of Rennes after the match, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. They returned to the hotel alongside a group of supporters who had gathered outside the entrance, but found themselves unable to enter the building.

Fans watched and filmed the players on their mobile phones as Torres and Godts attempted to make their way inside. However, the hotel’s revolving glass doors would not allow them through at that late hour.

The problem appeared to be more than simply the presence of supporters outside. The hotel seemed to be closed, or reception staff were not available, leaving the two new Paris Saint-Germain signings in an unusual situation only a few hours after making their first appearances for the club.

A member of the hotel staff attempted to help by opening the main entrance, but was initially unable to resolve the problem. The worker eventually found an alternative solution after discovering a side door next to the principal entrance.

That door was opened to allow Torres and Godts into the hotel, while the supporters continued to watch the scene and record it on their phones.

The incident followed an impressive introduction to life at Paris Saint-Germain for Torres. The Spain forward came on in the second half as a replacement for Ousmane Dembele, with his side trailing 2-0.

He then scored twice to bring his team level and earn Paris Saint-Germain a valuable point away from home. Fabian Ruiz provided the assists for both goals, helping Torres become the immediate focus of attention in Paris after making his mark in his first appearance for the French club.

Torres joined Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in a transfer worth about 50m euros. He signed a five-year contract and made an instant impact by helping his new side recover from a two-goal deficit.

Godts was also making his debut for Paris Saint-Germain after moving from Ajax. The Belgium international arrived in a deal of a broadly similar value to Torres’ transfer and agreed a contract running for five seasons.

Both players therefore experienced their first match in Paris Saint-Germain colours on the same evening, although it was Torres who dominated the headlines with his two-goal performance. Their late-night difficulty at the hotel provided a strikingly unusual conclusion to an otherwise memorable first outing for the club’s new arrivals.
