Jairo Huerta, Real Madrid’s fitness coach, was sent off following a confrontation with Tenerife manager Yeray Martin after Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory in the Spanish women’s league.
The incident took place after the final whistle in a match that saw Real Madrid recover from two goals down to claim victory in the eighth round of the competition.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, referee Lorena del Mar Trujillano Gallardo included the details of the confrontation in her official report. Martin had taken hold of the wrist of Real Madrid player Felicia Schroder while speaking to members of the refereeing team.
The report said Schroder approached the Tenerife manager and told him: “The match is over.” Martin then held her wrist and replied: “Good luck.”
When Schroder tried to pull her arm free, Huerta intervened and told Martin: “Let her go or I will hit you.” The Real Madrid staff member was subsequently dismissed by the officials.
The post-match confrontation added to a game already marked by controversy, including several disputed refereeing decisions. Tenerife took a 2-0 lead through Gramalia, who scored from the penalty spot, and Padilla.
Real Madrid then completed a dramatic turnaround, with goals from Berenstein, Schroder and Bron securing all three points.
The video review system FVS was also central to the debate surrounding the match. Schroder’s goal was examined amid doubts over a possible offside, while Real Madrid were awarded a penalty. The referee also reviewed two other incidents inside the penalty area.
Huerta’s dismissal was not his first since joining Real Madrid’s coaching staff. He was also sent off last season after insulting a member of Barcelona’s staff, calling him an “idiot”.
