El Mokawloon secure first Egyptian Premier League win against El Gouna

El Mokawloon El Arab claimed their first victory of the Egyptian Premier League season with a 1-0 win over El Gouna at Khaled Beshara Stadium.

Mustafa Gamal scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, giving El Mokawloon all three points in the third round of the league.

The result moves El Mokawloon El Arab up to 11th in the table with three points, while El Gouna remain 14th on two points.

The victory also ended El Mokawloon’s wait for their opening point of the campaign. They had been the only team in the league yet to register a point, meaning every side has now collected at least one point in the standings.

Gamal’s decisive penalty arrived shortly before half-time and proved enough to settle a closely contested match. El Gouna were unable to find an equaliser after the break as El Mokawloon held on to secure their first league success of the season.

The game also featured injury concerns for both goalkeepers, although the two incidents had different outcomes.

El Mokawloon goalkeeper Mahmoud Abou El Saoud was involved in more than one collision with the goalpost during the match. Despite the impacts, he continued playing and completed the game normally.

El Gouna goalkeeper Ahmed Massoud was not able to finish the match. He was forced to leave the field in the 76th minute after suffering an injury, with Islam Emad coming on to replace him.

For El Mokawloon, the win provides an important lift after their difficult start to the campaign and puts them on three points after three matches. El Gouna, meanwhile, remain on two points following the defeat.

El Mokawloon El Arab will return to league action against Al Ahly on Wednesday, 9 September. On the same day, El Gouna will face Pyramids.
