Al Ahli’s defensive absences continue as Al Khaleej visit, with Mendy and Galeno ruled out

Al Ahli will be without goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and winger Wendelson Galeno when they host Al Khaleej in the Roshn Saudi League on Thursday.

The match will take place at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah and is part of the 11th round of the competition.

According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, both players remain unavailable because of injury, leaving Al Ahli without two of their foreign players despite the return of England striker Ivan Toney to training.

Mendy has not played for Al Ahli since the end of the most recent international break after suffering an injury during training. The Senegal goalkeeper subsequently missed league matches against Al Fateh and Al Fayha, as well as the AFC Champions League Elite fixture against Al Wasl of the United Arab Emirates.

Galeno, meanwhile, sat out Al Ahli’s last two games against Al Wasl and Al Fayha. The Brazilian sustained his injury during the league meeting with Al Fateh.

Toney has resumed training after recovering from the injury that kept him out of Al Ahli’s previous match against Al Fayha. His return provides a boost to the squad, although Mendy and Galeno are still expected to miss Thursday’s fixture.

Al Ahli are fifth in the Saudi league table with 18 points. They trail leaders Al Qadsiah by seven points, although Al Ahli have played one match fewer.
