El Gouna have announced that their 18-year-old winger Adham Refaat will join Belgian second-tier side Liege on a season-long loan.

Refaat featured for El Gouna’s first team last season and will now take the next step in his career by moving abroad. The Egyptian club confirmed the agreement with Liege, who compete in the second division of Belgian football, and wished their young player success in his professional experience.

The teenager can operate on the left wing and is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder. His performances for El Gouna’s senior side last season helped establish him as one of the club’s emerging talents.

Refaat made 14 appearances for El Gouna in the previous campaign, contributing to four goals. He scored twice and provided two assists during those matches.

The loan move gives Refaat the opportunity to continue his development in Belgium while gaining experience in a different football environment. Liege have already begun their campaign in the Belgian second tier, although they suffered defeat in their opening fixture.

The Belgian second division provides a route into the country’s top flight. The team finishing first earns automatic promotion to the Belgian Premier Division, while the clubs placed from second to fifth enter a promotion play-off.

El Gouna, meanwhile, are due to begin their league campaign for this season against Modern Sport on Sunday evening. Refaat’s departure comes as the club prepares for its opening domestic fixture, with the young player set to continue his development away from Egypt for the duration of the loan.

The move represents a significant opportunity for Refaat, who only played his first-team football for El Gouna last season. His ability to contribute both from the left side and in a creative midfield role was reflected in his four goal contributions across 14 appearances.

El Gouna’s announcement confirmed that the agreement will last for one season. The club publicly expressed its support for the player as he begins his spell with Liege, while the Belgian side look to recover from their opening-day loss and compete for promotion during the campaign.
