Egyptian Referees Committee to release video reviewing controversial second-round decisions

The Egyptian Referees Committee will broadcast a video analysing controversial refereeing decisions from the second round of the Egyptian Premier League, including incidents from Al Ahly’s match against ZED FC, a committee source has told FilGoal.com.

The video will examine the most disputed calls from the round, with particular attention expected to be paid to the match between ZED FC and Al Ahly.

“The Referees Committee has decided to broadcast a video analysing the controversial incidents in the matches from the second round, including the ZED and Al Ahly match,” the source told FilGoal.com.

The decision follows the committee’s move to publish an analysis video after the opening round of the competition. That footage focused on a penalty awarded to Al Ahly in their match against Eastern Company.

The use of video analysis is part of the committee’s public explanation of notable refereeing decisions during the league season. The first-round video addressed the incident which resulted in Al Ahly being awarded a spot-kick against Eastern Company.

Essam Abdel-Fattah has been in charge of the Egyptian Referees Committee since the start of the current season. He succeeded Colombian referee Oscar Ruiz in the role.

Al Ahly defeated ZED FC 2-0 in the second round of the Egyptian Premier League. The match included a penalty appeal from ZED FC players after an incident involving Al Ahly winger Achraf Bencharki.

The ZED FC players called for a handball decision, but referee Mohamed Maarouf allowed play to continue. He judged that there had been no deliberate handball by Bencharki, who plays for Al Ahly.

The committee’s planned video will therefore include the incident among the decisions to be reviewed from the second round. It will follow the same approach as the footage released after the opening round, when the focus was on Al Ahly’s penalty against Eastern Company.

Al Ahly’s 2-0 victory over ZED FC remains the match result associated with the disputed call, while the committee’s analysis is expected to set out the refereeing view of the incident rather than alter the result.

The announcement means the committee intends to provide video analysis for selected controversial decisions from each of the first two rounds of the Egyptian Premier League. Its next release will cover the second-round matches and will include the disputed handball appeal involving Bencharki.
