Former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has joined Flamingo FC, who compete in the fourth tier of South African football, as he looks to revive his career after a difficult spell in the professional game.

The 33-year-old has been unveiled by the club, which competes in Stream B of the SAFA King Cetshwayo Hollywoodbets Regional League, marking a significant change in his football journey after years in South Africa’s top flight.

Sithebe had been without a club since his contract with Richards Bay was terminated following a disciplinary dispute in February 2025. He joined the KwaZulu-Natal outfit in July 2024 after leaving Kaizer Chiefs but managed just eight appearances across all competitions before his departure.

The midfielder’s exit followed a reported dressing-room altercation involving members of the technical team. Richards Bay accused him of misconduct, while Sithebe explained that he had spoken up as a senior player because he disagreed with certain coaching decisions after a defeat.

Before joining Richards Bay, Sithebe spent two seasons at Kaizer Chiefs, making 39 appearances in all competitions. However, his most productive spell came at AmaZulu, where he made 132 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists.

He also earned eight caps for the South African national team, underlining the experience he brings to his new club.

His move to Flamingo FC represents a major step down in league level, but the regional-league side will benefit from having a midfielder who has competed at the highest level of South African football.

Sithebe will now be hoping to use the opportunity to regain his form and extend his playing career, while Flamingo FC will look to draw on his experience as they strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
