Curtis Jones completes Liverpool exit as Inter Milan confirm 2031 contract

Inter Milan have officially signed Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones for an initial fee of 30 million euros, with a further 5 million euros available in add-ons.

The Italian club confirmed the move in a statement, saying: “The club officially announces the signing of Curtis Jones from Liverpool for 30 million euros, plus a further 5 million euros, with a clause granting Liverpool a percentage of the player’s future resale value.”

Liverpool will also receive 10% of any future transfer fee involving Jones, who has signed a contract with Inter Milan running until June 2031.

The deal brings to an end months of negotiations between the two clubs. Liverpool had initially held out for a fee of at least 40 million euros, despite Jones’ contract having been due to expire at the end of the season.

Inter eventually agreed to pay 30 million euros up front, with another 5 million euros potentially payable depending on the agreed conditions. The deal also includes the sell-on percentage for Liverpool.

Jones arrived in Italy from Liverpool on Wednesday evening and completed his medical examinations on Thursday before finalising the long-term agreement.

The 25-year-old had been a target for Inter since last year, with the club also making an attempt to sign him during the January transfer window. That approach was rejected at the time, but Inter returned for the player during the current summer market and completed the transfer.

Jones is the third member of England’s 2026 World Cup squad to join Inter Milan during this summer’s transfer window. He follows John Stones, who moved to the club on a free transfer, and Djed Spence, the Tottenham Hotspur full-back.

The move also marks a significant change for a player who had spent his entire career with Liverpool. Jones came through the club’s youth academy and was one of only a small number of Liverpool-born players still part of the first-team squad.

He made six appearances for England and scored once at international level.

Inter’s acquisition of Jones adds another England international to their squad ahead of the new campaign, while Liverpool have agreed to part with a player who had developed within their own system and remained closely connected to the city.

The transfer was completed during the ongoing summer window after the two clubs found common ground over the initial fee, additional payments and Liverpool’s share of any future sale.
