‘I’m a winner, I want to win everything’ – Yves Bissouma fires warning after Ajax move

Yves Bissouma has vowed to bring his winning mentality to Ajax after completing his move to the Dutch giants following a difficult final chapter at Tottenham.

The Ivory Coast international had been without a club since leaving Spurs when his contract expired at the end of last season. Ajax have now handed the 30-year-old an opportunity to revive his career at one of Europe’s most historic clubs.

Bissouma, who joined Tottenham from Brighton in 2022, made just 11 appearances during his final campaign in north London as disciplinary issues and a sharp decline in his standing within the squad disrupted his time at the club.

Bissouma endured difficult spell at Spurs

His problems at Tottenham began two years ago when the club suspended him after a video emerged on social media appearing to show him using nitrous oxide.

The midfielder was suspended again in August 2025 after arriving late for several team meetings. Months later, he was again caught using laughing gas in December, further damaging his position at the club.

Despite those setbacks and his prolonged wait for a new employer, Ajax have opted to give Bissouma another chance.

The midfielder says he is delighted to have secured the move and believes discussions with people at the club before his arrival convinced him that Amsterdam was the right destination.

“I feel really happy. It means a lot, because Ajax is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. And for me to be part of the trip of this great club is something beautiful.”

‘I’m here to help the team’

Bissouma also outlined the contribution he expects to make beyond his duties on the pitch, stressing his desire to encourage his teammates and help Ajax reach their potential.

“I’m someone who’s really there for his teammates and who tries to push them every day. To show them that we can do better, that we can do more. That sort of thing. That’s in me. I’m not the coach, but like I said, I’m here to add that.”

He added: “My role is to try to help the team and bring the team where it deserves to be.”

Ajax move gives Bissouma fresh start

For Bissouma, the move represents a chance to put the problems of his Tottenham spell behind him and re-establish himself at a club competing at the top level of European football.

The midfielder, however, has made it clear that he is not arriving in Amsterdam simply to make up the numbers.

“I’m a winner and then you want to win everything. That’s my desire and I’m ready to start.”
