Chelsea pair Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro named among Premier League Player of the Month nominees
Chelsea are the only club with two players on the list for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August, with Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro both recognised for their performances.
The pair were outstanding during Chelsea’s matches in August, helping their side through two fixtures against Fulham and Brighton.
Joao Pedro made a particularly strong impact across those games, scoring twice and providing two assists. His contribution made him one of the leading candidates for the monthly award and ensured Chelsea had two players included among the nominees.
Palmer also played a decisive role. The England international was involved in three goals over the same two matches, scoring twice and setting up another.
The inclusion of both players means Chelsea are the only team represented by two nominees on the August list. The remaining candidates come from Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Hull City and Brentford.
The full list is:
– Cole Palmer – Chelsea – Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United – Rayan Cherki – Manchester City – Riccardo Calafiori – Arsenal – Yoane Wissa – Newcastle – Konstantinos Tzolakis – Hull City – Mamadou Sangare – Brentford – Joao Pedro – Chelsea
Palmer and Joao Pedro’s nominations underline the influence they had in Chelsea’s two August matches. Palmer contributed through a combination of goals and assists, while Joao Pedro matched his goal total and added two further assists.
Chelsea’s representation is notable because no other club has more than one player on the list. Their two nominees were both involved in the team’s attacking output during the month, with the pair accounting for five direct goal contributions between them across the matches against Fulham and Brighton.
Palmer is nominated after scoring two goals and creating one more, while Joao Pedro’s record stands at two goals and two assists. Both players therefore enter the list on the strength of their individual attacking performances.
The other six nominees complete a list featuring players from a range of Premier League clubs. Bruno Fernandes represents Manchester United, Rayan Cherki is included for Manchester City and Riccardo Calafiori is Arsenal’s nominee. Yoane Wissa features for Newcastle, Konstantinos Tzolakis is listed for Hull City and Mamadou Sangare represents Brentford.
Chelsea’s double presence places Palmer and Joao Pedro at the centre of the August award discussion, following their respective contributions in the club’s two matches during the month.
