Como thrash Manchester United 4-1 to extend winless run to seven matches

Como produced a commanding 4-1 victory over Manchester United in the third round of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League league phase, leaving Michael Carrick’s side without a win in seven consecutive matches.

Nico Paz scored twice, while Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon were also on target for the Italian side. Joshua Zirkzee scored Manchester United’s only goal, but it came in stoppage time and could not prevent a second successive defeat in the competition.

The result lifts Como to six points and fifth place in the league standings after three matches. Manchester United remain on three points and have dropped to 22nd.

Como took control almost immediately, with Paz opening the scoring in the second minute. The midfielder created space on the edge of the penalty area before striking a fine effort into the far top corner.

Manchester United were unable to find a response before the interval, and Como doubled their advantage four minutes after the restart. Paz sent a pass through the Manchester United defence for Douvikas, who finished beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Paz then completed his brace in the 57th minute. Receiving the ball inside the penalty area, he struck a low effort into the Manchester United net to make it 3-0.

Como added a fourth when Jacobo Ramon headed in from Kayky Bruno’s cross, directing his effort into the right side of Lammens’ goal.

Zirkzee pulled one back for Manchester United in the first minute of added time, but the late goal served only as consolation.

The victory was Como’s second in the Champions League from their three matches. They have suffered just one defeat in the competition, while Manchester United have now lost twice.

Carrick made one notable change to his starting line-up, bringing Matthijs de Ligt back into the team from the beginning for the first time in 365 days after injury.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo led the Manchester United attack, but the visitors struggled to contain Como after Paz’s early breakthrough. The defeat leaves them with three points from the opening stage of the league phase and extends a difficult run that has now reached seven games without a victory.
