Real Madrid secured their place as the first finalist of the 2013-2014 Champions League season with a dominant performance against Bayern Munich on Tuesday. In the semi-final second leg, the Spanish club convincingly defeated Bayern Munich 4-0 in Germany.
The match saw Real Madrid take control early on, despite Bayern Munich having possession of the ball. Gareth Bale’s volley narrowly missed giving Real the lead, but they didn’t have to wait long for the breakthrough. In the 16th minute, Sergio Ramos rose highest to head in a corner delivered by Luka Modric. Just four minutes later, Ramos struck again with another header, this time from a free kick by Gareth Bale. The Bavarians found themselves in a dire situation.
Real Madrid’s dominance continued as Cristiano Ronaldo extended their lead in the 34th minute with a swift counterattack, also setting a new record for goals scored in the Champions League with 15 to his name. With a 3-0 lead at halftime, the outcome of the match was all but decided.
In the second half, Real Madrid controlled the game, managing their lead without conceding any further goals. Ronaldo added another goal to his tally with a well-taken free kick, sealing the match with a 4-0 victory.
The result was a disappointment for Bayern Munich, as Real Madrid advanced to the final. The second finalist will be determined in the match between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
