LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES: THINGS ARE OFF TO A BAD START FOR AFRICAN COUNTRIES IN FOOTBALL!
The Olympic Games officially kick-started with the opening ceremonies today, but the football competition commenced two days earlier. Unfortunately, African teams have faced a challenging start and are yet to secure a victory.
The situation is more striking in the women’s competition. Cameroon experienced a tough defeat at the hands of Brazil, conceding five goals to nil. South Africa also struggled, falling to Sweden with a score of 4-1.
On the men’s side, the results have been somewhat less disappointing. Gabon managed a 1-1 draw against Switzerland, while Senegal achieved the same score against the host country, England. Morocco also secured a draw with Honduras, with the match ending in a 2-2 tie. Egypt, another African representative, came close to an impressive performance against Brazil but fell short, losing 3-2.
The second day of competition for the African teams promises to be crucial for their chances in the tournament. In the women’s competition, the challenges ahead are daunting. South Africa faces a tough test against Canada, and Cameroon has a formidable opponent in Great Britain. Both matches are scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday.
As for the men’s competition, African teams will compete on Sunday. Egypt will face New Zealand, Gabon will take on Mexico, Morocco will challenge Japan, and Senegal will go up against Uruguay. These matches will be pivotal in determining the fate of the African teams in the competition.
