Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is keeping things strictly professional when it comes to the future of rising star Nico Williams.
Though the manager has a deep connection with Athletic Club, where he once played and coached, he knows his role now requires balance, especially as talk grows of a potential move for Williams to Barcelona.
De la Fuente, who led Spain to the Euro Cup title, spoke on COPE’s El Partidazo late at night and was pressed on the situation surrounding the young winger.
Luis was questioned about the future of Nico Williams, which points to the City of Barcelona. The selector understands noise as normal in the sport king: “Since memory times, football has moved by signings, transfers… as long as there are interests of a club, it negotiates and that the footballer is interested in the operation, that’s football.”
As speculation builds, the coach’s clear stance signals that while his past lies in Bilbao, his current priority is Spain, and staying out of club politics.
