Callum Hudson-Odoi out of remainder of Nottingham Forest season
England international of Ghanaian descent Callum Hudson-Odoi has been ruled out of action for the remainder of the season after undergoing a successful surgery.
The 25-year-old sustained the injury during Nottingham Forest’s narrow 1-0 UEFA Europa League win over FC Porto at the City Ground last week.
Hudson-Odoi made substitute appearance, as his outfit triumphed over the Portuguese giants. However, the enterprising winger’s evening took a devastating turn after being forced off in the 73rd-minute mark.
Following a successful surgery, Nottingham Forest have confirmed the English-Ghanaian winger will not be able to feature again, with five matches to end the current window.
“Callum is expected to return to full training during the pre-season period, and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery,” the club said.
The timing of the injury is particularly damaging for Forest, who have been relying heavily on Hudson-Odoi’s creativity and direct attacking threat in a tightly contested season. His ability to stretch defences, create chances in wide areas, and contribute goals has made him one of the team’s most influential players during key stretches of the campaign.
The emotional nature of his departure against Porto now makes sense in hindsight, as the severity of the issue became clear only after further assessment. What initially appeared to be a precautionary substitution has since developed into a season-ending setback.
For Forest, the absence of Hudson-Odoi removes a crucial attacking outlet at a decisive stage of the season, forcing the coaching staff to adjust their plans as they enter the final stretch of fixtures. Squad depth and tactical flexibility will now be tested as they attempt to finish the campaign strongly without one of their standout performers.
From a personal perspective, the focus for Hudson-Odoi will now shift entirely to recovery and rehabilitation. With pre-season targeted as his return point, the priority will be ensuring a full and safe recovery to avoid any long-term complications from the muscle surgery.
While the setback is significant, both player and club will hope this becomes only a temporary interruption in what has been a promising resurgence in form for the former Chelsea winger since his arrival at Forest.
