Brighton end Manchester City’s 24-match home scoring run

Manchester City’s Premier League title challenge suffered another setback as Brighton secured a 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Yasin Ayari scored the only goal in the 11th minute, giving Brighton a lead they held until the final whistle. The result meant Manchester City failed to score at home in the league for the first time in 24 matches, according to WhoScored statistics.

The defeat followed last weekend’s 2-1 loss away to Aston Villa, making it the first time this season that the side managed by Enzo Maresca have suffered successive Premier League defeats.

Manchester City dominated long periods of the match and created a number of chances, but Brighton’s defence protected its advantage. The hosts were unable to find an equaliser and left the pitch with another league defeat, intensifying the competition at the top of the table.

Manchester City remain on 21 points, but their position at the summit is now under threat. Arsenal, who have the same number of points, will face Liverpool on Sunday.
