The CAF Confederation Cup’s 2024/25 Preliminary Round witnessed a remarkable performance from Mozambique’s Associação Black Bulls, who delivered a stunning 7-0 victory over Alize Fort of Comoros in their first-leg clash on Saturday. The match, played in Maputo, showcased the Black Bulls’ offensive prowess as they all but secured their place in the next round of the competition.

Seven different players found the back of the net for the Black Bulls, underscoring the team’s depth and versatility in attack.

The scoring began with Hammed Jeleel setting the tone early on, and the rout was completed by Ejaita Ifoni, who closed out the emphatic win.

This dominant performance allows the Mozambican side to look ahead confidently to the second round, where they will face either 15 de Agosto from Equatorial Guinea or AS Otoho of Congo.

The first leg between these potential opponents, originally scheduled in Malabo, was postponed.

The Black Bulls’ victory was one of several notable results in the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.

South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC marked their debut in African club competition with a convincing 3-0 win over Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs.

The match, held in Durban, saw goals from Andre De Jong, Devon Titus, and Fawaaz Basadien, ensuring Stellenbosch a significant advantage heading into the second leg.

Angola’s Bravos do Maquis also secured a comfortable 3-0 win, overpowering Tanzania’s Coastal Union in Lubango.

The Angolan side’s goals came courtesy of Joaquim Paciencia, Emmanuel Macayobo, and Luis Manico, putting them in a strong position to progress in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Nigeria’s El Kanemi Warriors were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Benin’s Dadje FC in Sagamu.

The Nigerian side had to rely on a last-minute equalizer from Gimba Ajiji to avoid a home defeat, leaving them with work to do in the return leg.

In other matches, Seychelles’ Foresters MF and Botswana’s Orapa United also played to a 1-1 draw in Saint Pierre, leaving their tie evenly poised.

Meanwhile, Algeria’s CS Constantine secured a 2-0 victory over Rwanda’s Police FC, with goals from Brahim Dib and Tosin Omoyele proving decisive.

In Morocco, Union de Touarga and Ivory Coast’s RC Abidjan played out a goalless draw in Rabat, setting up a tense second leg in Abidjan.

The preliminary round action will continue on Sunday, with regional derbies taking center stage.

Matches include Zimbabwe’s Dynamos FC facing Zambia’s ZESCO United, Kenya’s Administration Police taking on Ethiopia’s Ethiopian Coffee, and Guinea’s Hafia FC going head-to-head with Rahimo FC from Burkina Faso.

The weekend’s results have already set the stage for an exciting and competitive start to this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, with several teams positioning themselves as early favorites to advance.
