Emerse Faé leaves role as Cote d’Ivoire head coach after contract expires

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has officially confirmed that Emerse Faé is no longer the head coach of the Côte d’Ivoire senior men’s national team after his contract expired on Friday, July 31, 2026.

In an official statement released on Friday, the federation announced that Faé’s deal had come to an end and would not be renewed, bringing his tenure with the Elephants to a close.

“The contract of Mr. Emerse Faé, Head Coach of the Ivory Coast National A Team, expired on July 31, 2026, and will not be renewed,” the statement read.

The FIF Executive Committee expressed its appreciation to the 41-year-old tactician for his dedication, professionalism and outstanding service during his time in charge of the national team.

The federation praised his contribution to the growth of Ivorian football and acknowledged the achievements recorded under his leadership, describing them as an important chapter in the country’s recent football history.

“The Executive Committee expresses its deep gratitude to Mr. Emerse Faé for his commitment, professionalism, and services rendered at the helm of the National A Team,” the federation added.

Faé will be best remembered for guiding Côte d’Ivoire to a historic triumph at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.

Initially appointed on an interim basis following the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset during the tournament, Faé inspired an incredible turnaround as the Elephants recovered from a difficult group stage campaign to win the continental title.

His success earned him the permanent role, and he subsequently led the West African nation through the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and into the early stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

While the federation did not disclose the reasons behind its decision not to extend his contract, it wished Faé continued success in his coaching career.

“The Executive Committee extends to Mr. Emerse Faé its sincerest wishes for continued success in his professional career,” the statement concluded.

The Ivorian Football Federation also confirmed that it will announce the appointment of a new head coach and the composition of the national team’s technical staff in due course as preparations continue for upcoming international competitions.
