Bheki Mabuza joins Orlando Pirates as Soweto giants continue transfer spree

Orlando Pirates have added another attacking option to their squad after completing the signing of Marumo Gallants midfielder Bheki Mabuza ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

The Soweto giants confirmed Mabuza’s arrival on Wednesday morning after reaching an agreement with Gallants for the transfer of the attacking midfielder.

Pirates continue squad overhaul

Mabuza becomes the latest addition to an increasingly revamped Pirates squad, with coach Abdeslam Ouaddou overseeing an aggressive recruitment drive during the current transfer window.

The Buccaneers have already brought in more than 10 players as they look to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

Among their new arrivals are Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Sbangani Zulu, Bohlale Ngwato, Neo Rapoo, Matome Mmolai, Ghampani Lungu, Thapelo Mokobodi and Sebastian Pedersen.

Mohau Nkota and Aphiwe Baliti have also joined the club, although Baliti will spend the 2026/27 season at Siwelele FC on a season-long loan.

Mabuza’s arrival adds further depth to an attacking department that Pirates are strengthening ahead of a demanding campaign.

Mabuza brings Gallants experience

The midfielder joins Pirates after making a significant contribution to Gallants last season, featuring 35 times across all competitions.

Although his goal return was modest, Mabuza managed three goals and one assist during his time with Bahlabane Ba Ntwa.

Pirates will hope the 2026/27 campaign provides the attacking midfielder with the platform to develop further while competing for major honours with one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

Pirates targeting domestic and continental glory

The latest signing underlines Pirates’ determination to assemble a squad capable of handling an ambitious schedule.

The Soweto giants are preparing to defend their Betway Premiership, MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup titles, while also targeting success in the CAF Champions League.

With the transfer window due to close later this month, Pirates have wasted little time in strengthening their ranks.

Mabuza’s capture is another statement of intent from Ouaddou and the club’s hierarchy, who appear determined to ensure the squad has enough quality and depth to compete across all four fronts.
