Bayern Munich extend 13-year Champions League home unbeaten run

Bayern Munich extended their remarkable home record in the Champions League by making it 39 consecutive matches without defeat in the group stage or league phase.

The German side reached the landmark with a 5-0 victory over Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt in their opening league-phase fixture on Thursday.

Bayern had started the match unbeaten in their previous 38 home games at this stage of the competition. Their last defeat came in December 2013, when they lost 3-2 to Manchester City.

Since then, Bayern have recorded 37 wins and two draws, with no defeats, according to statistics provider Squawka. The run has allowed them to retain a record which has stood for 13 years.

Jamal Musiala broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, before Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage with a header 14 minutes later.

Alphonso Davies added a third in the 77th minute, striking powerfully from outside the penalty area. Michael Olise then completed the rout with two late goals, scoring in the 83rd minute and again in the second minute of added time.

The result gave Bayern a convincing start to their European campaign and left them second in the standings after the opening round. They sit behind Paris Saint-Germain on goal difference, with the French club having won the previous two editions of the competition.

Bayern’s latest victory also preserved a home sequence that began after the defeat by Manchester City and has continued through the competition’s change from a traditional group-stage format to the current league phase. Across those 39 matches, the club have suffered no setbacks while winning all but two of them.
