Al Ahly’s Ahmed Reda frustration explained as Imam Ashour and defensive pair face uncertainty
Former Al Ahly and Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed Shobier has denied reports of a confrontation between manager Hussein Ammouta and midfielder Ahmed Reda, while warning that several players face uncertain futures amid the club’s recent decline in results.
Shobier said Ahmed Reda was unhappy at not being selected, but insisted there had been no argument between the player and the Moroccan coach. He described the midfielder’s frustration as a normal reaction for a footballer seeking an opportunity to prove himself.
“Did Ahmed Reda have a fight with Ammouta? No, he did not,” Shobier wrote on X. “Is Ahmed Reda upset? Yes, he is. Is Ahmed Reda angry? Any player who does not play becomes upset, but the important thing is that your frustration does not affect your performances, your training or your attitude.”
Shobier also discussed the position of Imam Ashour, saying there was dissatisfaction within the coaching staff over the player’s current level and his effort in training compared with what he had previously produced.
Despite describing Ashour as one of the most prominent players in Egypt, Shobier said his place in the starting line-up would depend on his commitment during training and the standard he showed when given an opportunity.
A significant improvement could bring Ashour back into the team’s first-choice plans, Shobier said, while a continuation of his current form could result in him remaining outside the starting side.
Hany and Yasser Ibrahim under scrutiny
Shobier added that Al Ahly appeared determined to impose greater discipline within the squad as results declined. He said the club’s management and coaching staff had provided the conditions required for the team to achieve better results.
Mohamed Hany’s position is also linked to negotiations over a new contract. According to Shobier, the disagreement centres on a participation-percentage clause.
Hany wants to be exempt from the condition, while Al Ahly is holding to the rules it has established for contract renewals. Although the defender continues to train regularly, Shobier said his involvement could become uncertain in the coming period.
He also referred to a previous description by Wael Gomaa of Hany’s omission as a technical decision, and suggested that opportunities for the player could remain difficult to secure.
Yasser Ibrahim’s situation is similarly tied to both his contract and his performances. Shobier said the defender is fit but was absent from the most recent match, with his future involvement likely to depend on the team’s needs and the coaching staff’s assessment of his level.
The participation of both Mohamed Hany and Yasser Ibrahim will therefore remain under review as technical considerations overlap with ongoing renewal discussions at Al Ahly.
The update appears under a listing for Modern Sport, the Egyptian Premier League, 29 October 2026 and Al Ahly.
