Iker Rodriguez is set to sign a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at the club until June 2029, after making an impressive start to the season with Barcelona Atletic.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper is expected to put pen to paper on the new agreement on Friday, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. Barcelona and Rodriguez have made significant progress in negotiations, underlining the club’s determination to retain one of the leading emerging talents from La Masia.
Rodriguez has played in each of Barcelona Atletic’s first eight league matches this season, conceding only four goals. He has also kept six clean sheets during that run.
His campaign began particularly strongly, with four successive shutouts in the opening four rounds. Barcelona Atletic had not managed such a start since the 2022-2023 season.
The club’s faith in Rodriguez is based on more than his statistics. Barcelona value his sharp reactions, his ability to deal with balls played over the crossbar and his confidence in possession. His ability to use both feet is also considered important to the way the Catalan club aims to play.
Rodriguez joined La Masia from Sabadell at a young age and progressed through Barcelona’s youth teams before establishing himself as an important member of Barcelona Atletic.
He has continued that development under manager Giuliano Belletti and has also been given opportunities to train with the first team under Hans Flick. The goalkeeper has even been included in a senior matchday squad.
Barcelona’s first-team schedule includes a La Liga fixture against Deportivo Alaves on 31 October 2026, followed by a Champions League match against Aston Villa on 03 November 2026.
