Barcelona could be forced to reconsider their position on Fermin Lopez if Paris Saint-Germain follow through with plans to make an €80m offer for the midfielder, according to CaughtOffside.
The French club are preparing what has been described as a “serious offer” for the Spain international, while Chelsea are also considering a substantial move for the 22-year-old. Barcelona would prefer to keep one of their most promising young players, but their financial difficulties could make a suitable bid difficult to reject.
Selling an established member of the squad would provide Barcelona with funds to help manage their continuing financial problems. Although the Catalan club remain keen for Lopez to stay, the scale of the proposed offer could lead them to reassess their position.
Chelsea previously made approach
Chelsea’s interest in Lopez dates back to the summer of 2025, when the Premier League club submitted a significant offer for his services. Lopez rejected the possibility of leaving Barcelona at that time and chose to remain with the club where he had established himself.
According to the report, Chelsea made clear that they would be prepared to return for the midfielder if his circumstances changed. That could give the London club another opportunity to compete for his signature.
Paris Saint-Germain, however, appear to be taking the more decisive approach at present. CaughtOffside says the proposed €80m bid is based on information from a source familiar with the football agents’ market.
Lopez’s prospects of regular first-team football at Barcelona could also influence what happens next. He faces strong competition for a consistent place in Hansi Flick’s side, a factor that could become important when he considers his future.
Despite that competition, Lopez’s own view on a potential move remains unclear. His previous decision to turn down Chelsea suggests he was determined to continue at Barcelona, where his performances had brought him to prominence.
The midfielder is not the only player attracting attention from leading European clubs. Arsenal and Manchester United have also made enquiries about his situation in recent months, although Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain currently appear to be the most serious contenders.
Barcelona’s preference remains to retain Lopez, but the club’s financial circumstances and the possibility of an €80m offer from Paris Saint-Germain mean the decision may ultimately be more complicated than they would like.
