Barcelona bring in Jesse Bisiwu as summer spending continues

FC Barcelona have signed 18-year-old winger Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge, making the Belgium-Ghana international the Spanish champions’ third summer recruit.

Bisiwu has agreed a contract with the Catalan club until 2031, with the transfer costing €8.5m. Club Brugge will also retain a 20% interest in any future sale of the player.

The move takes the teenager away from his boyhood club and to Spain after he failed to make an appearance for Club Brugge’s senior side. Most of his football in Belgium came with the club’s reserve team, Club NXT, where he recorded five goals and three assists in 55 second-tier matches.

His arrival continues an ambitious transfer window for FC Barcelona, who have already brought in England forward Anthony Gordon and Germany forward Karim Adeyemi. The addition of Bisiwu gives manager Hansi Flick another attacking option as the club look to strengthen their squad.

Bisiwu is capable of operating on either flank and attracted wider attention during the 2025 Euro U17 tournament, where he was regarded as one of the competition’s leading players.

The winger is expected to divide his playing time between Flick’s first-team squad and Barcelona’s reserve side during the early months of his career in Catalonia. That arrangement will allow the club to integrate him gradually while giving him regular competitive football.

Although he did not break into Club Brugge’s senior team before leaving, Bisiwu built his experience with Club NXT in Belgium’s second division. His record of five goals and three assists across 55 appearances formed the basis of his development before his move to FC Barcelona.

The agreement represents a significant investment in a player who remains at the beginning of his professional career. Barcelona have secured Bisiwu’s services for the next six years, while Club Brugge have protected their position should the winger later move on from the Catalan club.

Bisiwu’s transfer follows those of Gordon and Adeyemi, with all three arrivals adding depth to the attacking choices available to Flick. His ability to play from both sides of the attack is expected to give Barcelona further flexibility as they manage the transition between their senior and reserve teams.

For Bisiwu, the move represents the next stage after his emergence at youth level and his performances at the 2025 Euro U17 tournament. He will now begin life in Spain with the opportunity to work alongside the first-team group while continuing to develop with Barcelona’s reserves.
