Alexandre Lafitte in frame for Siwelele head coach role

Alexandre Lafitte is being considered for the vacant head coach position at Siwelele FC as the Bloemfontein-based club weighs up its options following the departure of Lehlohonolo Seema.

Lafitte is one of several names under consideration as Siwelele begins the process of appointing a permanent successor. The Frenchman is currently without a club after his spell with Marumo Gallants ended earlier this year.

He was suspended by Gallants in March after reportedly failing to meet certain club obligations, with the team also struggling for results at the time. Jamil Benouahi subsequently replaced him, with Gallants confirming Benouahi’s appointment in March.

A move to Siwelele would give Lafitte a possible route back into the Betway Premiership. However, the club is still reviewing its options before deciding on the structure of its senior coaching team and technical programme.

Siwelele start season with caretaker in charge

Siwelele parted company with Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson earlier this week after a disappointing opening to the 2026/27 campaign.

Under Seema, the side failed to win any of their first five league matches. They collected just two points from a possible 15, leaving the club to make an early change to its technical setup.

Godfrey Mosoetsa was placed in temporary charge following the departures. His first match came against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night, but Siwelele were unable to produce an immediate improvement.

They were beaten 3-0 by Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, extending a difficult start for the Bloemfontein club and increasing the focus on the search for a permanent head coach.

Siwelele now face another important test on Sunday, when Golden Arrows visit the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The club’s ongoing review is expected to determine its next steps, with the coming days potentially bringing greater clarity over the permanent coaching structure. Lafitte has emerged as one of the candidates being monitored as Siwelele considers who should lead the team for the remainder of the campaign.
