Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique said his side’s intensity in the opening stages of their 6-0 Champions League victory over Villarreal was decisive in shaping the match.

Paris Saint-Germain scored three times during the first 15 minutes before completing a comprehensive win in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage.

“We started the match extremely well,” Luis Enrique told beIN Sports. “When you play the first 15 minutes with that intensity and such a high press, and score three goals, it changes the course of any match.

“It was a wonderful night, but we have to wait for the other results from this round.”

Joao Neves, Desire Doue and Senny Mayulu were also on the scoresheet, while Fabian Ruiz scored twice and David Pouli completed the scoring.

The result moved Paris Saint-Germain to 12 points at the top of the standings, giving them a perfect record after four matches.

Villarreal remain on three points and sit 29th in the table.

Paris Saint-Germain also set a Champions League record by becoming the fastest team to score four goals, reaching that mark after just 16 minutes and two seconds.

Luis Enrique said he was particularly pleased with how comfortably his team handled the match, given what had been expected before kick-off.

“I am extremely happy with what we have achieved,” he added. “We played the match with greater ease than we had expected before it.”

The Paris Saint-Germain manager also stressed that the team’s immediate focus had already turned to their next fixture before the international break.

“We still have the Ligue 1 match against Troyes ahead of us before the international break, and we want to finish it in the best possible way,” he said.
