Saudi giants Al Ittihad drop interest in Morocco coach Walid Regragui
Morocco head coach Walid Regragui will not be taking charge of Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad after the club reportedly decided against pursuing a move for the Atlas Lions boss ahead of next season.
Recent reports had linked Regragui with the vacant managerial position following the departure of Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao, placing the Moroccan tactician among a number of candidates considered for the role.
Regragui No Longer in Contention
Speculation surrounding a potential move to Saudi Arabia gathered momentum in recent weeks, with several reports suggesting Al Ittihad were exploring the possibility of appointing Regragui as their new head coach.
However, Saudi journalist Majid Hood has now stated that the Moroccan coach is no longer under consideration and will not be leading the Jeddah-based club during the upcoming campaign.
According to the journalist, Regragui’s name appeared only on an initial list of potential candidates and was never seriously advanced as part of the club’s recruitment process.
Club Yet to Settle on New Manager
The latest update suggests that Al Ittihad’s leadership has not formally presented any candidates for the position and remains calm in its search for a new head coach.
Reports indicate that discussions regarding the club’s next managerial appointment are being handled internally, away from public speculation and media attention.
As a result, Regragui’s future remains with the Moroccan national team, where he continues preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Focus Remains on Morocco’s World Cup Campaign
With Morocco currently in the United States preparing for the World Cup, Regragui’s immediate priority remains guiding the Atlas Lions through another major international tournament.
The Moroccan coach has earned widespread recognition for leading the national team to a historic semi final appearance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and is now focused on helping the Atlas Lions build on that achievement at the 2026 edition.
For now, any possibility of a move to Al Ittihad appears to have been ruled out, leaving Regragui fully concentrated on Morocco’s ambitions on the world stage.
