Welsh winger Rabbi Matondo becomes unattached after SK Brann exit

Welsh and DR Congo winger Rabbi Matondo has joined the ranks of unattached players after leaving SK Brann.

The 25-year-old left-sided attacker’s departure from the Norwegian club was completed on 29 August 2026, ending a spell that began with his free transfer from Rangers on 31 March.

Matondo made the move to Brann during the 2025-26 season but did not feature in the club’s opening six possible matches in the 2026-27 Uefa Conference League qualifying campaign. He was recorded as having made no appearances, starts or minutes in that competition before his exit.

The right-footed winger returned to the market after a career that has included spells in England, Germany, Scotland, Belgium and Norway. He joined Rangers from Schalke in July 2022 for €3m and spent part of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Hannover 96 before returning to the Scottish club.

Matondo made 15 appearances for Hannover during that loan spell, before his temporary move ended on 30 June 2025. He remained with Rangers until his free transfer to Brann the following March.

His time in Glasgow included a Scottish League Cup triumph in the 2023-24 season. That honour remains the major team achievement recorded in his senior career.

Matondo began his development with Cardiff City’s youth academy before moving to Manchester City, progressing from the club’s under-18 side to its under-23 team. Schalke signed him from Manchester City’s under-23s in January 2019 for €9m.

He later spent loan periods with Stoke City and Cercle Brugge while contracted to Schalke. The Stoke move took place during the 2020-21 season, while his time with Cercle Brugge came in 2021-22.

Born in Liverpool on 9 September 2000, Matondo stands 1.75m tall and is listed primarily as a left winger. His highest recorded market value was €9m, while his latest valuation was €900,000.

Matondo’s transfer history now records his move away from SK Brann, leaving the former Rangers, Schalke and Manchester City player without a club from 29 August 2026.
