Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has undergone successful surgery following a knee injury sustained during their UEFA Champions League encounter against VfB Stuttgart.

Osimhen underwent the operation at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital after sustaining the injury during the European fixture.

The procedure was performed by Galatasaray club doctor Yener İnce, with the Istanbul-based outfit expressing confidence in the treatment as the striker begins his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

Osimhen is expected to spend approximately three weeks on the sidelines, dealing a temporary blow to Galatasaray’s attacking plans as they prepare for a demanding run of domestic fixtures.

The 26-year-old is consequently set to miss the club’s upcoming league encounters against Amedspor and Samsunspor, with the technical team expected to explore alternative attacking options during his absence.

His injury represents an unwanted development for Galatasaray, considering the Nigerian international’s importance to their forward line since establishing himself as one of the team’s leading attacking figures.

Osimhen has been a major presence in the final third, offering the Turkish champions a combination of physical strength, pace, intelligent movement and clinical finishing. His ability to stretch opposing defences, compete for aerial balls and create scoring opportunities has made him an important component of their attacking structure.

Beyond his goalscoring contributions, the striker’s relentless pressing and willingness to battle defenders have also provided Galatasaray with an important outlet when transitioning from defence to attack.

His absence will therefore require a tactical adjustment from the coaching staff, who must identify the right replacement to lead the attack while the Nigerian continues his recovery.

The timing of the injury is particularly disappointing for Osimhen, who would have been hoping to maintain his rhythm and continue delivering performances for the Turkish giants.

Meanwhile, the successful completion of the operation will come as a relief to Galatasaray supporters, although the club will be keen to ensure that the striker completes his rehabilitation without complications.

The medical team will closely monitor his progress over the coming weeks before determining when he can resume full training and eventually return to competitive action.

Galatasaray will be hoping that the anticipated three-week recovery period goes according to plan, allowing Osimhen to return to the squad without further setbacks.

For Nigeria, the striker’s condition will also be monitored closely, given his importance to the Super Eagles and the role he plays in their attacking plans.

For now, Osimhen’s immediate priority will be a full recovery as Galatasaray prepare to navigate his temporary absence from the team.
