Amina Orfi claims US Open crown to extend remarkable squash dominance

Amina Orfi continued her outstanding run by winning the women’s US Open title, defeating fellow Egyptian Nouran Gohar in straight games to secure her fourth consecutive title this season.

The 19-year-old completed a commanding final victory with an 11-7, 11-3, 11-6 win over Gohar.

The success makes Orfi the youngest player to win the US Open title. She has now collected 17 Professional Squash Association titles during her career.

Orfi has also become the youngest player to win the World Championship, the British Open and the US Open.

Her latest triumph extends a period of sustained success in which she has continued to establish herself at the top of the women’s game. She won the World Championship in May before claiming the British Open title, then began the current season with victories at the London Classic, Qatar Classic and Egypt Open.

The US Open title means Orfi has won six of the last seven tournaments in which she has competed.

It also ensures she will remain top of the women’s world rankings when the next list is released on Monday.

Gohar’s appearance in the final was her first in a major tournament since giving birth to her daughter seven months ago. She reached the title match by beating Hania El Hammamy in a semi-final that lasted 107 minutes.

That contest was the longest women’s match in the history of the tournament. Despite the physical demands of the semi-final and her return to competition after becoming a mother, Gohar advanced to face Orfi in the final.

Orfi, however, controlled the decisive match from the outset. She took the opening game 11-7 before moving further ahead with an 11-3 second game. A final 11-6 success completed the clean sweep and confirmed another major title for the teenager.

Her victory adds the US Open to a collection that now includes the sport’s World Championship and British Open, while also extending her run of tournament success into the latest stage of the season.
