Al Ittihad Alexandria sign former Al Ahly forward Malik Yasser

Al Ittihad Alexandria have signed Malik Yasser Abu El-Fotouh from Al Ahly to strengthen their men’s basketball team for the next season.

The player has agreed a one-season contract with Al Ittihad Alexandria after leaving Al Ahly at the end of last campaign. The Egyptian Basketball Federation has confirmed that Yasser is entitled to move to another club, clearing the way for the transfer.

Yasser’s departure from Al Ahly followed the conclusion of the previous season, in which he helped the Cairo club win the Egyptian League title. He will now continue his career with Al Ittihad Alexandria, who are preparing to challenge for domestic honours next season.

Ayman Sedky, head of Al Ittihad Alexandria’s basketball department, said the club’s right to sign the former Al Ahly player had been formally established by the Egyptian Basketball Federation’s Grievances Committee.

“The Egyptian Basketball Federation’s Grievances Committee proved Al Ittihad Alexandria’s right to sign Malik Yasser, the former Al Ahly player,” Sedky told FilGoal.com.

He added: “The player will join training within days.”

Yasser becomes Al Ittihad Alexandria’s third signing ahead of the new campaign. The club had already brought in Sami Iraqi and Ahmed Rehan as part of their preparations for the season.

The move is also the latest step in a period of change for Al Ittihad Alexandria. The club appointed Ahmed Omar as head coach several weeks ago, with Omar replacing Ashraf Tawfik in charge of the team.

That managerial change came after Al Ittihad Alexandria lost the Egyptian League final to Al Ahly last season. Despite that defeat, Al Ahly finished the campaign as champions, with Yasser collecting the league winner’s medal during his time with the club.

Al Ittihad Alexandria will now look to integrate Yasser into their squad as they build towards the new season. His arrival strengthens the side with a player who was part of the Egyptian League-winning Al Ahly team last campaign, while the club continues to reshape its roster under Omar.

The one-year agreement means Yasser will be contracted to Al Ittihad Alexandria for the forthcoming season. His participation in training is expected to begin within days, according to Sedky, following the decision by the federation’s Grievances Committee to recognise the club’s eligibility to complete the signing.
