Al Ahly secure five-year deal for Ghazl El Mahalla teenager Mahmoud Salah

Al Ahly have secured Mahmoud Salah’s signature on a five-year contract, with the Egyptian champions increasing their offer for the Ghazl El Mahalla player to 35 million Egyptian pounds plus a percentage of any future sale.

Salah, 18, has signed the contract to join Al Ahly during the current summer transfer window, according to FilGoal.com.

Officials from Al Ahly and Ghazl El Mahalla are expected to meet within the next 24 hours to finalise the agreement and complete the transfer paperwork. The meeting will determine the final terms between the two clubs after Al Ahly improved their proposal for the young player.

The latest offer is understood to be worth 35m Egyptian pounds, together with a sell-on percentage for Ghazl El Mahalla. The figure represents a further increase from the 30m Egyptian-pound bid previously revealed by a source at the club.

Despite Al Ahly’s revised offer, Ghazl El Mahalla are understood to be holding out for 50m Egyptian pounds before agreeing to release Salah. The club’s position is that the player will only leave if that valuation is met.

Salah made 28 appearances for Ghazl El Mahalla last season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. His performances have attracted the attention of Al Ahly, who have now moved to secure his services while discussions between the clubs continue.

The teenager is currently with Egypt’s under-20 squad, coached by Wael Reyad. The team are preparing to compete in the North African qualifiers for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The move would take Salah from Ghazl El Mahalla to Al Ahly after one senior season in which he featured regularly. Although personal terms have been agreed through the five-year contract, the clubs still need to settle the financial arrangements before the transfer can be formally completed.

Al Ahly’s decision to raise their bid underlines their determination to sign the player, while Ghazl El Mahalla’s demand for 50m Egyptian pounds leaves room for further negotiations.
