Abdoulaye Seck: Senegal defender joins Saudi Pro League side Al Faisaly on free transfer
Senegal international defender Abdoulaye Seck has completed a move to Saudi Pro League newcomers Al Faisaly FC after leaving Israeli side Maccabi Haifa as a free agent.
The 34-year-old, a member of the Teranga Lions set-up, was unveiled by the Saudi club on its social media channels, confirming the next chapter in a career that has already taken him through Belgium and Israel.
Al Faisaly, recently promoted to the Saudi top flight, have yet to disclose the length of Seck’s contract.
Experienced African defender for promoted Saudi side
Al Faisaly have secured what is seen as a high-profile reinforcement for their defensive line as they prepare for life back in the Saudi Pro League.
Seck, who was born in Mbour, Senegal, arrives with extensive experience in European and Middle Eastern football. He enjoyed several successful seasons with Royal Antwerp in Belgium’s top division before moving to Maccabi Haifa, where he continued to feature in domestic and continental competitions.
Now, the Senegalese centre-back is set to test himself in the fast-growing Saudi Pro League, which in recent seasons has attracted a series of international players and raised the profile of football in the kingdom.
Free agent move and pre-season in Slovenia
Out of contract following his departure from Maccabi Haifa, Seck was free to negotiate his next destination and has opted for Al Faisaly’s project as the club seeks to consolidate its status in the top tier.
Soon after signing, Seck travelled to Slovenia to link up with his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp. The decision to integrate him immediately into preparations underlines the importance Al Faisaly appear to place on his arrival, both in terms of experience and leadership at the back.
According to current market estimates, Seck is valued at around €400,000, reflecting his age but also his pedigree as an established international defender.
New league, new lifestyle
The move will see Seck adapt to a new league and a different cultural environment after his spells in Belgium and Israel. For Al Faisaly, his signing brings a player accustomed to competing at a high level and coping with the demands of both domestic and international football.
As the club gears up for the new Saudi Pro League season, Seck is expected to play a central role in shoring up the defence and providing guidance to younger players in the squad.
Further details of his contract and official comments from the player and club are anticipated closer to the start of the campaign.
