Massire Sylla has received his first call-up to the Senegal senior national team after being selected by manager Patrick Vieira for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers against Sudan.
The 21-year-old Union Saint-Gilloise defender joins the Lions of Teranga squad as a replacement for Mamadou Sarr, who has withdrawn because of a left calf injury.
Senegal will face Sudan twice during the November international window, with the two matches scheduled for 12 and 16 November. The fixtures form part of the qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sylla’s selection follows an impressive start to the season with his Belgian club. He has started 16 of Union Saint-Gilloise’s 17 matches, scoring once and providing two assists.
His consistent involvement has seen him establish himself as an important member of the team’s defensive unit. That form has now earned him the opportunity to step up to senior international football for the first time.
The defender began his development at Diambars before continuing his career with Pau and Norwegian club Lyn. His call-up represents another stage in a career that has included spells in Senegal, France, Norway and Belgium.
Sylla’s versatility is also an asset for Vieira. He can play in central defence or operate in midfield, giving the Senegal manager an additional option as the team prepares for the two qualifying matches against Sudan.
The defender could now make his first appearance for Senegal’s senior side during the fixtures on 12 or 16 November.
