Pascal Groß equals Mesut Ozil’s Premier League record for German goal involvements

Pascal Groß matched Mesut Ozil’s record for the most goal involvements by a German player in Premier League history after scoring for Brighton against Brentford.

Groß put Brighton 2-1 ahead shortly before half-time in their Premier League meeting on Sunday, converting a penalty in the 42nd minute.

Diego Gomez had given the home side the lead in the 15th minute, before Igor Thiago equalised for Brentford eight minutes later.

According to Opta, Groß now has 87 Premier League goal involvements – the same total as former Arsenal midfielder Ozil. The Brighton player has scored 35 goals and provided 52 assists in the competition.

Ozil recorded 33 goals and 54 assists during his Premier League career.

The achievement comes more than six years after Ozil’s final goal involvement in the competition. Transfermarkt data shows that his last Premier League goal for Arsenal came on 16 February 2020, when he scored in a 4-0 victory over Newcastle.

He completed his final Premier League assist for the Gunners several days later, setting up the only goal in a 1-0 win against West Ham on 7 March.

Groß has featured in every Brighton match since the start of the season. He has scored four goals and registered six assists during that run.

The German’s penalty against Brentford therefore moved him level with Ozil in the all-time Premier League standings for German players, reviving a record that had belonged solely to the former Arsenal player for more than six years.
