Olympique Lyonnais will be without Ghanaian forward Ernest Nuamah and Senegalese defender Moussa Niakhaté for Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Real Sociedad due to muscle injuries.

The two players are expected to miss the matchday-four fixture, with Lyon hoping to have them available for Sunday’s Ligue 1 encounter against Brest.

Maciel provides injury update

Lyon interim manager Jorge Maciel confirmed the injuries during a press conference.

“They’ve suffered muscle strains,” the coach revealed.

Maciel admitted that the club were still assessing the players’ recovery but remained hopeful they could return against Brest.

“We hope to have them back for Sunday’s match in Brest. We’re waiting for an update; we don’t yet know if they’ll be fit or not. We’ll see how things are progressing when we return to Lyon,” concluded the 41-year-old coach.

Lyon facing several injury concerns

The absence of Niakhaté and Nuamah is another setback for Lyon, with both players considered important members of the team.

Their return could be delayed until the end of November, while the club are also without Loïs Openda, Pavel Šulc, Mohamed Ouedraogo and Tyler Morton through injury.

Apart from Openda, the other injured players are not expected to return for several weeks or months.
