Chiefs plan gradual introduction for new signing Elias Mokwana

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz says Elias Mokwana will be integrated gradually, with the upcoming FIFA break giving the club an opportunity to work with the winger before he is fully involved with the squad.

Mokwana recently joined Amakhosi as they strengthen their attacking options for the remainder of the campaign. The former Sekhukhune United player has previously represented Bafana Bafana, although he has endured a difficult start to the current season.

Chiefs are preparing to face Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership on Sunday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. However, Da Cruz has warned that supporters may need to wait before seeing the full effect of the club’s latest signing.

Speaking to journalists at the Carling Knockout Cup media day at the PSL offices in Parktown, Johannesburg, on Thursday, the French coach praised Mokwana’s ability and experience while outlining the club’s approach to his arrival.

“Elias Mokwana is a very good player, an experienced player as well. He was in the Bafana Bafana team before, so he has a lot of quality,” Da Cruz said.

“We know that his beginning of the season was a little bit tough, but we have the FIFA break ahead of us, so during the FIFA break we will have time to work with him.

“I think that after the FIFA break, it will be time to integrate him step by step into the squad.”

Da Cruz’s comments indicate that Chiefs do not intend to rush Mokwana into competitive action. Instead, the international break will allow the technical staff time to help him adapt to the team and work on his integration.

Mokwana’s previous experience with Bafana Bafana was also highlighted by Da Cruz, who believes the winger’s qualities can add to Chiefs’ attacking options once he is ready to contribute regularly.

The immediate focus remains Sunday’s league fixture against Siwelele FC, while the coaching staff prepares a longer-term plan for Mokwana’s involvement after the FIFA break.
