Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi has expressed delight after Brian Brobbey signed a new long-term contract, extending his stay at the Stadium of Light until 2031.

The Dutch international has become an important figure in Sunderland’s attack since arriving from Ajax on September 1, 2025, and the club are keen to retain his services as they pursue their ambitions in domestic and European competitions.

Ghisolfi believes the agreement reflects a shared commitment to the club’s long-term project and is confident the 24-year-old has more to offer.

“We are delighted that Brian has committed his future to Sunderland. This agreement reflects a shared belief in what we can achieve together and a mutual commitment to keep progressing,” he said.

Brobbey has made an immediate impact since his arrival, registering 10 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.

One of his standout performances came in September, when he scored a hat-trick against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, becoming the first Sunderland player to achieve the feat in the Premier League since Jermain Defoe in 2016.

Ghisolfi believes the club’s responsibility is to provide the right environment for the forward to continue developing and fulfil his potential.

“Brian has important qualities, and we believe there is much more to come from him. Our responsibility is to support his development and challenge him every day, so he can fulfil his potential and help the team succeed,” he added.

The Black Cats hope Brobbey’s commitment will help drive their ambitions in the coming years.
