Bayern Munich held by Borussia Dortmund after late Fabio Silva equaliser

Bayern Munich missed the chance to move clear at the top of the Bundesliga after being held to a 2-2 draw by Borussia Dortmund in the German Klassiker at Allianz Arena on Saturday.

The result leaves Bayern on 18 points, level with second-placed Dortmund, who trail only on goal difference after eight rounds of the competition.

Dortmund appeared to have taken the lead in the 34th minute when Jobe Bellingham found the net, but the goal was ruled out after the referee judged that a foul had been committed against Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

Bayern responded four minutes later. Konrad Laimer put the hosts ahead in the 38th minute after breaking forward and finishing in a one-on-one situation with Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to extend Bayern’s advantage early in the second half, but struck the crossbar from the penalty spot in the 56th minute.

Dortmund took advantage of that reprieve and equalised in the 60th minute through Serhou Guirassy, who fired home from inside the penalty area.

Bayern restored their lead shortly afterwards. French defender Dayot Upamecano headed in from Harry Kane’s assist in the 66th minute to put the home side 2-1 ahead.

However, Dortmund secured a point in the 89th minute when substitute Fabio Silva scored a late equaliser.

Bayern suffer three attacking injuries

The draw was made more costly for Bayern by a series of injuries in attack. Ismael Saibari was forced off in the 29th minute, Serge Gnabry followed two minutes later, and Michael Olise also left the pitch in the 84th minute.

The latest injuries came at a difficult stage for Bayern, who were already without several players. Luis Diaz and Jamal Musiala were among those unavailable because of injury, while manager Vincent Kompany is also ill.

Bayern now face a crucial test away to Atletico Madrid in the fourth round of the Champions League on Tuesday, 3 November 2026.

The Bavarian side had been seeking a victory over their closest domestic rivals to strengthen their position at the summit, but Dortmund’s late response ensured the two clubs remained level on points.
