Ahmed Fattouh apologises to Zamalek fans after victory over Al Mokawloon Al Arab

Ahmed Fattouh apologised to Zamalek supporters after their 2-1 Egyptian Premier League victory over Al Mokawloon Al Arab.

Fattouh walked towards the club’s fans alongside his team-mates at the final whistle and made an apologetic gesture to them.

Zamalek secured all three points in their eighth league match of the season, with Chico Banza scoring the winning goal in the 88th minute.

Mohamed Hamdy put Zamalek ahead shortly after half-time, before Mohamed Abdel Nasser levelled for Al Mokawloon Al Arab. His shot struck Omar Gaber before ending up in the net.

The result ended Zamalek’s difficult run against Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the league, giving them their first victory in the last five matches between the two sides in the competition.

Zamalek moved up to 19 points and are temporarily second in the table, while Al Mokawloon Al Arab remain on 11 points in seventh place.

Zamalek’s next league fixture will be against El Gouna on 23 November.

Disciplinary action against three players

A source from Zamalek previously revealed that Fattouh, Ahmed Sherif and Mostafa El Zenary had been given a substantial financial fine by the club.

The source told FilGoal.com: “Zamalek trio Ahmed Fattouh, Ahmed Sherif and Mostafa El Zenary made a mistake by staying out late at a venue after Zamalek’s match against Rwanda Army in Kigali.”

The source added: “A substantial financial penalty was imposed on them, with a warning that they would be excluded from the team indefinitely if the behaviour was repeated. This took place in the presence of team captain Omar Gaber.”

Fattouh was also criticised by Zamalek supporters who attended the second leg against Rwanda Army.

Zamalek progressed to the group stage of the CAF Champions League after beating Rwanda Army 1-0 in the second leg of their round-of-32 tie.

They had also won the first leg 1-0 in Rwanda, completing a 2-0 aggregate victory.
